Thankfully, Lafayette established favorable trading terms with France after the war to allow for the sale of Nantucket’s oil to

light the lamps of Paris! But how do you thank a Marquis and Major General of the American Revolution? Well, with a 500-pound cheese, of course, made from 100% Nantucket cow milk donated by the islanders and then shipped to France to Lafayette his wife Adrienne!
